THE DOG-HUMAN BOND

SitStayRead Certified Reading Assistance Dogs create a positive social environment that invites young readers to expereince a boost of joy in the middle of a long school day, relax and less worried about making mistakes. For some kids, learning about dog safety and having a couple of months to regularly engage with new canine friends can be a powerful experience of overcoming fear. Regular dog visits create positive associations with reading and writing, and teachers report better attendance on “SitStayRead days”.

Our dogs also provide important physical and mental health benefits we categorize as Social Emotional Learning assets. Studies show that interacting with a dog can help lower a person’s blood pressure and cortisol levels for example. We’ll be uploading more resources about the science behind the Dog-Human Bond by the fall of 2024.
