Position Title: Bilingual Programs Coordinator

Employment Type: Full-time, 40 hrs a week

SitStayRead is Chicago's only literacy organization using the power of the human-dog bond to inspire young readers to develop a passion for reading that will lead them to become confident and enthusiastic readers. SitStayRead advances children's literacy skills with Certified Reading Assistance Dogs, trained literacy volunteers, and a bilingual curriculum focusing on social-emotional learning. SitStayRead is working to become an anti-racist organization. The Bilingual Programs Coordinator will be responsible for the translation, development, and delivery of our programs for students whose primary language is Spanish. This person will facilitate programs through classroom visits and serve as a liaison between our program sites, volunteers, and SitStayRead staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop new or adjusted program curriculum and activities with a focus on culturally relevant content for English Language Learners, including both written and oral Spanish content.

  • Collect research on best practices and collaborate with key advisors to build an institutional knowledge base around bilingual/EL education and support implementation in the Program Department.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for 3-5 partner schools, communicating regularly with school administrators and participating teachers.

  • Facilitate SitStayRead program visits in 3-5 classrooms per week. Facilitation  will include, but is not limited to:

    • Leading program activities, supporting student needs, and managing the classroom environment.

    • Preparing and transporting necessary materials for each program session.

    • Managing teams of volunteers on-site, ensuring that volunteers are adhering to program guidelines.

    • Communicating regularly with volunteers and classroom teachers via email, calls, and text.

  • Attend SitStayRead staff meetings and professional development sessions.

  • Accurately maintain all pertinent program data in SitStayRead’s database.

  • Participate in SitStayRead’s strategic planning process.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Mission-driven with a passion for children’s literacy, animal-assisted learning, and social justice.

  • Fluent Spanish speaking and writing skills required.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and organize effectively. Able to work both independently and as part of a team. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience preferred in Google Suite, Asana, Slack, and Salesforce or willingness to be trained in these platforms. 

  • Access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to schools throughout the city.

  • Ability to attend occasional evening and weekend events.

Position Details:

  • Schedule: Typical work week follows a Monday - Friday  9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. schedule, with flexibility in start/end times and work-from-home options available.

  • We are operating in a hybrid model. Staff has the option of working from home or in the office at their discretion.

  • Must pass a background check.

  • Salary:  $40,000 - $45,000

  • Benefits: Competitive benefits package includes medical insurance, unlimited PTO (vacation, sick, and mental health days), three (1) week rest and restore breaks, summer half-day Fridays, and pet bereavement.
